Discuss the Representation of Marginalized Groups in to Kill a Mockingbird free essay sample

All through the novel, we see that the characters are partitioned into certain unmistakable gatherings, which speak to the significant gatherings all in all general public. We likewise observe the social partition between these gatherings, and keeping in mind that a few gatherings are very much spoken to in the public arena, others are minimized (I. e. they have grain or no social remaining in the public arena). The main case of these gatherings is the Ewells. The Ewells speak to the helpless white society in our locale. Toward the beginning of the novel, our initial introduction of the Ewells is a negative one. We are portrayed the unhygienic idea of the Ewells when a â€Å"cootie† emits out of Burris Ewell’s hair. Our impression of the Ewells is intensified when we discover that the Ewell’s just show up for one day of the school, and remain at home for the remainder of the year subsequently getting no instruction. Also, when the educator attempts to train him, he considers her a â€Å"snot-nosed slut†. We will compose a custom exposition test on Examine the Representation of Marginalized Groups in to Kill a Mockingbird or then again any comparable theme explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page At the point when Scout tells Atticus of her day in school, we are given progressively nitty gritty data of their lifestyle. Atticus calls them â€Å"the disrespect of Maycomb for three generations†. We are likewise informed that on account of their carnal nature, the law is bowed on specific events. For example, going to class just for a day and chasing unavailable. The main explanation Mr. Ewell, the dad, is permitted to chase unavailable is in such a case that he was illegal to do as such, his kids would starve. This portrayal of the Ewell family serves to make us take a gander at the Ewells in a nauseated and negative way. In the book we are given a decent portrayal of the Ewell’s habitation during Tom Robinson’s preliminary. Harper Lee utilizes harsh speech to depict the home. The depiction of the Ewell house is a knowledge into the lives of the Ewells. We perceive how merciless the dad is and the sort of life he has constrained his girl Mayella to live. I feel the explanation Lee uses clear detail in the record of the Ewell house is on the grounds that the most ideal approach to comprehend the Ewells is to comprehend their lifestyle. Lee expresses that â€Å"the lodges board dividers were enhanced with sheets of folded iron, its general shape proposed its unique plan: square, with four small rooms opening onto a shotgun lobby, the lodge rested precariously upon four sporadic chunks of limestone. Its windows were only open spaces in the dividers, which in the late spring were secured with oily segments of cheddar material to keep out the varmints that devoured Maycombs decline. † This depiction of the iron and the state of house cause the house to appear to be progressively similar to a lodge and it reveals to us a tad about the Ewells. Through this model we find that the Ewells care almost no if not under any condition about the presence of their home and its appearance. Lee likewise includes â€Å"What went for a fence was bits of tree appendages, broomsticks and instrument shafts, all tipped with corroded sledge heads, scoops, tomahawks and grubbing tools, hung on with bits of security fencing. † This depiction of the raggedy fence makes us believe that the fence is worked from things you would discover in a dump which others have discarded. Every one of these portrayals make it evident that Lee needs us to react in a negative way towards the Ewells and their lifestyle. I feel that the Ewells speak to the leftovers of society which were by one way or another not took from presence. Be that as it may, as opposed to the Ewells, we see the helpless dark â€Å"settlement†. The lodges claimed by poor people blacks were â€Å"neat and cozy with light blue smoke ascending from the stacks and entryways gleaming golden from the fries inside. There were flavorful scents about: chicken, bacon singing fresh as nightfall air. Jem and I identified squirrel cooking, however it took a genuine nation man like Atticus to distinguish possum and bunny, smells that disappeared when we rode back past the Ewell home. Lee utilizes language by utilizing engaging words like â€Å"neat† and â€Å"snug† which speak to the differentiation between the places of the Ewells and the helpless dark network. Through this we see that while the individuals from the dark network lived in destitution like the Ewells, they despite everything kept their homes clean and their kids took care of. I feel the helpless dark network in the content speaks to poor people and tragic gatherings in our networks. When you completely investigate the content, you start to understand that various gatherings of our present society are spoken to in the content.

No CRZ freedom or consent had been tried to develop the structure. It inferred that the no CRZ fr eedom had been looked for joining 2269 sqm of BEST land. This was a condition forced on the lodging society by the state’s division of income when extra land was apportioned in August 2005. The Adarsh Society has likewise abused the floor space list admissible in the CRZ-II territory of Mumbai. This is recommended in the Development and Control Regulations of 1967. There are reports that there are different structures too that have come up,† he acknowledged, including that he will follow them after 2010 alteration to the CRZ guidelines are passed by Parliament. Raj Bhavan sources affirmed on Tuesday evening that representative K Shankarnarayan got a proper solicitation from the state government prescribing him to make reference to the Supreme Court for expulsion of Tiwari. This will imply that Tiwari won't have the option to challenge his expulsion in any court. Both Defense Minister AK Antony and Army Chief General VK Singh have guaranteed exacting activity against any serving official who is seen as liable in the trick. MoD has likewise said that it will give brief authorization to CBI to scrutinize any serving official and will have no complaint on the off chance that they are arraigned. The dubious Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society (ACHS) had plans to embrace another private undertaking. It had even moved toward the Maharashtra government for designation of a 7,500 sq m plot arranged close to the Spastic Society of India in Colabaâ ACHS had proposed to build up the plot to assemble modest houses for the ‘‘ more vulnerable segments , resistance work force and other meriting classes’’ . The general public applied for land at Wadala , and the administration on a basic level demonstrated eagerness to allocate 13,000 sq meters (more than 3 sections of land) in September 2009. While responsibility for land was still with the state, it was in the guardianship of Army for quite a long while. Armed force had taken authority of the land since the time it was recovered in light of the fact that the state government was to offer it to the Army as an end-result of Army’s land in Santa Cruz terminating range which was taken over by for extending the Western Expressway. Presently, as the reviewers experience records, obviously the Army neither got the land, nor money related remuneration from the state. The general public was approached to change the bye-laws by the then Revenue Minister Ashok Chavan. That is on record. He assembled a conference and called individuals from the general public and requested that they change the bye-laws and 40 percent of regular citizens ought to be permitted to be individuals from the general public. His associates state that at whatever point Thakur faced an obstacle, he would make the individual an individual from the general public. What I believe is to obliterate that building since it isn't following any standards passed by the legislature. Or then again we can hand over that working to the naval force and armed force and let them choose what to do. Or on the other hand we can give the pads to the kargil widows, since that land is for them as it were. Lay is rely upon the administration. On the off chance that any such tricks happen in negligible future than open must speak loudly so as to fight them, it some way or another impact our economy and ruin our general public. For the most part the tricks are finished by the legislature personnel’s. what's more, these days numerous individuals are attempting to some way or another land the administration position. Missing Document Deadline Extended to Wednesday

Missing Document Deadline Extended to Wednesday Based on a high volume of document submissions generated by my previous post, we are now extending the deadline for submission of missing documents to this Wednesday, February 1st, at 5 PM ET. This is a mighty good time to login to MyMIT and make sure everything is in! To recap, you may send your missing documents in via: Docufide Fax at  617.687.9184 Fax is the most reliable way to get us a document. It is automagically digitzed and put into our system, and today we have already received over a thousand faxes and are working on processing them. In a small number of cases almost entirely international students in India there has been some difficulty sending faxes. While were not exactly sure why this is happening, or where the breakdown is occurring, but if this glitch is affecting you, you may, in the short run, have your teacher or guidance counselor email a scanned PDF of the missing document to admissions [at] mit [dot] edu. If we need to follow up for confirmation, we will. Please only email the document if the fax option has repeatedly failed for you. Faxing the document is quicker and easier for you and for us. Additionally, I received a number of comments on my last post from students concerned about missing test scores that they had sent some time ago. When I followed up with those individuals, in almost every case the same thing had happened, which is that the student had registered for the test with slightly different information (a different spelling of name, or choice of last name, or address, or high school) than they had used for applying via MyMIT. When this happened our system creates two records for a single individual one with the scores, and one with everything else because of the different data asssociated with the documents. If you are missing scores and you are positive that you sent them to MIT via the appropriate testing organization, it is very likely the case that it is because of this dual record problem. Please email admissions [at] mit [dot] edu and alert them to differences which may exist between your MyMIT information and your SAT/ACT/TOEFL/etc information so that we can work on merging those records for you. Dont be worried! We are here to help you get your information to us. Thanks for quickly sending in missing documents, and well get them processed as fast as we can.

Essay on Biography of John Clare - 581 Words

Biography of John Clare John Clare (1793 - 1864) John Clare was born to a poor labouring family in Northamptonshire. His education did not extend much beyond basic reading and writing, and he had to start work herding animals at the age of seven. This was not a promising start for a future writer, but in his early teens he discovered The Seasons by James Thomson and began writing poems himself. His first love, Mary Joyce, was the daughter of a wealthy farmer; their separation caused Clare great pain, and it contributed to the sense of loss which pervades much of his poetry. Essay on Nursing as an Occupation - 1113 Words

Nursing as an Occupation Works Cited Not Included Nursing has, quite possibly, been one of the most difficult professions to define in the medical field. Clarke (2003) stated that the nurse needs to `articulate who s/he is and what his/her `value is in medicine or risks having others define it. As with the profession itself, definitions of nursing are ...dynamic...constantly evolving to meet new needs...new knowledge.(Royal College of Nursing, 2003). Poulin (1987) declared, ...The professionalism of nursing will be tested by its degree to its caring function. (cited i n Lindberg, Hunter and Kruszewski, 1998 p.20). In 1986, Leiniger wrote that the client could become degraded and feels treated as an object by the use of mechanical therapies. She stressed that clients need quality care from humans and that the nurse requires the character traits to carry out this function such as: comfort, compassion, concern, helping behaviour, love, support, touching and trust. (cited in Lindberg, Hunter, Kruszewski, 1998, p.20). Commitment to partnership is of major importance in nursing. The relationship between the nurse and the client reflects dedication to ensuring the overall well being of the client and, thus, the personal reward for the nurse. This relationship is based on empathy on the nurses part and trust on the clients part. In 1952, Peplau recognised that this interpersonal relationship develops at the orientation phase when one stranger requires care that another stranger can offer. (cited in Baillie, 1995, p.29). A Game of Thrones Chapter Fifty-eight Free Essays

Eddard The straw on the floor stank of urine. There was no window, no bed, not even a slop bucket. He remembered walls of pale red stone festooned with patches of nitre, a grey door of splintered wood, four inches thick and studded with iron. We will write a custom essay sample on A Game of Thrones Chapter Fifty-eight or any similar topic only for you Order Now He had seen them, briefly, a quick glimpse as they shoved him inside. Once the door had slammed shut, he had seen no more. The dark was absolute. He had as well been blind. Or dead. Buried with his king. â€Å"Ah, Robert,† he murmured as his groping hand touched a cold stone wall, his leg throbbing with every motion. He remembered the jest the king had shared in the crypts of Winterfell, as the Kings of Winter looked on with cold stone eyes. The king eats, Robert had said, and the Hand takes the shit. How he had laughed. Yet he had gotten it wrong. The king dies, Ned Stark thought, and the Hand is buried. The dungeon was under the Red Keep, deeper than he dared imagine. He remembered the old stories about Maegor the Cruel, who murdered all the masons who labored on his castle, so they might never reveal its secrets. He damned them all: Littlefinger, Janos Slynt and his gold cloaks, the queen, the Kingslayer, Pycelle and Varys and Ser Barristan, even Lord Renly, Robert’s own blood, who had run when he was needed most. Yet in the end he blamed himself. â€Å"Fool,† he cried to the darkness, â€Å"thrice-damned blind fool.† Cersei Lannister’s face seemed to float before him in the darkness. Her hair was full of sunlight, but there was mockery in her smile. â€Å"When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die,† she whispered. Ned had played and lost, and his men had paid the price of his folly with their life’s blood. When he thought of his daughters, he would have wept gladly, but the tears would not come. Even now, he was a Stark of Winterfell, and his grief and his rage froze hard inside him. When he kept very still, his leg did not hurt so much, so he did his best to lie unmoving. For how long he could not say. There was no sun and no moon. He could not see to mark the walls. Ned closed his eyes and opened them; it made no difference. He slept and woke and slept again. He did not know which was more painful, the waking or the sleeping. When he slept, he dreamed: dark disturbing dreams of blood and broken promises. When he woke, there was nothing to do but think, and his waking thoughts were worse than nightmares. The thought of Cat was as painful as a bed of nettles. He wondered where she was, what she was doing. He wondered whether he would ever see her again. Hours turned to days, or so it seemed. He could feel a dull ache in his shattered leg, an itch beneath the plaster. When he touched his thigh, the flesh was hot to his fingers. The only sound was his breathing. After a time, he began to talk aloud, just to hear a voice. He made plans to keep himself sane, built castles of hope in the dark. Robert’s brothers were out in the world, raising armies at Dragonstone and Storm’s End. Alyn and Harwin would return to King’s Landing with the rest of his household guard once they had dealt with Ser Gregor. Catelyn would raise the north when the word reached her, and the lords of river and mountain and Vale would join her. He found himself thinking of Robert more and more. He saw the king as he had been in the flower of his youth, tall and handsome, his great antlered helm on his head, his warhammer in hand, sitting his horse like a horned god. He heard his laughter in the dark, saw his eyes, blue and clear as mountain lakes. â€Å"Look at us, Ned,† Robert said. â€Å"Gods, how did we come to this? You here, and me killed by a pig. We won a throne together . . . â€Å" I failed you, Robert, Ned thought. He could not say the words. I lied to you, hid the truth. I let them kill you. The king heard him. â€Å"You stiff-necked fool,† he muttered, â€Å"too proud to listen. Can you eat pride, Stark? Will honor shield your children?† Cracks ran down his face, fissures opening in the flesh, and he reached up and ripped the mask away. It was not Robert at all; it was Littlefinger, grinning, mocking him. When he opened his mouth to speak, his lies turned to pale grey moths and took wing. Ned was half-asleep when the footsteps came down the hall. At first he thought he dreamt them; it had been so long since he had heard anything but the sound of his own voice. Ned was feverish by then, his leg a dull agony, his lips parched and cracked. When the heavy wooden door creaked open, the sudden light was painful to his eyes. A gaoler thrust a jug at him. The clay was cool and beaded with moisture. Ned grasped it with both hands and gulped eagerly. Water ran from his mouth and dripped down through his beard. He drank until he thought he would be sick. â€Å"How long . . . ?† he asked weakly when he could drink no more. The gaoler was a scarecrow of a man with a rat’s face and frayed beard, clad in a mail shirt and a leather half cape. â€Å"No talking,† he said as he wrenched the jug from Ned’s hands. â€Å"Please,† Ned said, â€Å"my daughters . . . † The door crashed shut. He blinked as the light vanished, lowered his head to his chest, and curled up on the straw. It no longer stank of urine and shit. It no longer smelled at all. He could no longer tell the difference between waking and sleeping. The memory came creeping upon him in the darkness, as vivid as a dream. It was the year of false spring, and he was eighteen again, down from the Eyrie to the tourney at Harrenhal. He could see the deep green of the grass, and smell the pollen on the wind. Warm days and cool nights and the sweet taste of wine. He remembered Brandon’s laughter, and Robert’s berserk valor in the melee, the way he laughed as he unhorsed men left and right. He remembered Jaime Lannister, a golden youth in scaled white armor, kneeling on the grass in front of the king’s pavilion and making his vows to protect and defend King Aerys. Afterward, Ser Oswell Whent helped Jaime to his feet, and the White Bull himself, Lord Commander Ser Gerold Hightower, fastened the snowy cloak of the Kingsguard about his shoulders. All six White Swords were there to welcome their newest brother. Yet when the jousting began, the day belonged to Rhaegar Targaryen. The crown prince wore the armor he would die in: gleaming black plate with the three-headed dragon of his House wrought in rubies on the breast. A plume of scarlet silk streamed behind him when he rode, and it seemed no lance could touch him. Brandon fell to him, and Bronze Yohn Royce, and even the splendid Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning. Robert had been jesting with Jon and old Lord Hunter as the prince circled the field after unhorsing Ser Barristan in the final tilt to claim the champion’s crown. Ned remembered the moment when all the smiles died, when Prince Rhaegar Targaryen urged his horse past his own wife, the Dornish princess Elia Martell, to lay the queen of beauty’s laurel in Lyanna’s lap. He could see it still: a crown of winter roses, blue as frost. Ned Stark reached out his hand to grasp the flowery crown, but beneath the pale blue petals the thorns lay hidden. He felt them clawing at his skin, sharp and cruel, saw the slow trickle of blood run down his fingers, and woke, trembling, in the dark. Promise me, Ned, his sister had whispered from her bed of blood. She had loved the scent of winter roses. â€Å"Gods save me,† Ned wept. â€Å"I am going mad.† The gods did not deign to answer. Each time the turnkey brought him water, he told himself another day had passed. At first he would beg the man for some word of his daughters and the world beyond his cell. Grunts and kicks were his only replies. Later, when the stomach cramps began, he begged for food instead. It made no matter; he was not fed. Perhaps the Lannisters meant for him to starve to death. â€Å"No,† he told himself. If Cersei had wanted him dead, he would have been cut down in the throne room with his men. She wanted him alive. Weak, desperate, yet alive. Catelyn held her brother; she dare not kill him or the Imp’s life would be forfeit as well. From outside his cell came the rattle of iron chains. As the door creaked open, Ned put a hand to the damp wall and pushed himself toward the light. The glare of a torch made him squint. â€Å"Food,† he croaked. â€Å"Wine,† a voice answered. It was not the rat-faced man; this gaoler was stouter, shorter, though he wore the same leather half cape and spiked steel cap. â€Å"Drink, Lord Eddard.† He thrust a wineskin into Ned’s hands. The voice was strangely familiar, yet it took Ned Stark a moment to place it. â€Å"Varys?† he said groggily when it came. He touched the man’s face. â€Å"I’m not . . . not dreaming this. You’re here.† The eunuch’s plump cheeks were covered with a dark stubble of beard. Ned felt the coarse hair with his fingers. Varys had transformed himself into a grizzled turnkey, reeking of sweat and sour wine. â€Å"How did you . . . what sort of magician are you?† â€Å"A thirsty one,† Varys said. â€Å"Drink, my lord.† Ned’s hands fumbled at the skin. â€Å"Is this the same poison they gave Robert?† â€Å"You wrong me,† Varys said sadly. â€Å"Truly, no one loves a eunuch. Give me the skin.† He drank, a trickle of red leaking from the corner of his plump mouth. â€Å"Not the equal of the vintage you offered me the night of the tourney, but no more poisonous than most,† he concluded, wiping his lips. â€Å"Here.† Ned tried a swallow. â€Å"Dregs.† He felt as though he were about to bring the wine back up. â€Å"All men must swallow the sour with the sweet. High lords and eunuchs alike. Your hour has come, my lord.† â€Å"My daughters . . . â€Å" â€Å"The younger girl escaped Ser Meryn and fled,† Varys told him. â€Å"I have not been able to find her. Nor have the Lannisters. A kindness, there. Our new king loves her not. Your older girl is still betrothed to Joffrey. Cersei keeps her close. She came to court a few days ago to plead that you be spared. A pity you couldn’t have been there, you would have been touched.† He leaned forward intently. â€Å"I trust you realize that you are a dead man, Lord Eddard?† â€Å"The queen will not kill me,† Ned said. His head swam; the wine was strong, and it had been too long since he’d eaten. â€Å"Cat . . . Cat holds her brother . . . â€Å" â€Å"The wrong brother,† Varys sighed. â€Å"And lost to her, in any case. She let the Imp slip through her fingers. I expect he is dead by now, somewhere in the Mountains of the Moon.† â€Å"If that is true, slit my throat and have done with it.† He was dizzy from the wine, tired and heartsick. â€Å"Your blood is the last thing I desire.† Ned frowned. â€Å"When they slaughtered my guard, you stood beside the queen and watched, and said not a word.† â€Å"And would again. I seem to recall that I was unarmed, unarmored, and surrounded by Lannister swords.† The eunuch looked at him curiously, tilting his head. â€Å"When I was a young boy, before I was cut, I traveled with a troupe of mummers through the Free Cities. They taught me that each man has a role to play, in life as well as mummery. So it is at court. The King’s Justice must be fearsome, the master of coin must be frugal, the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard must be valiant . . . and the master of whisperers must be sly and obsequious and without scruple. A courageous informer would be as useless as a cowardly knight.† He took the wineskin back and drank. Ned studied the eunuch’s face, searching for truth beneath the mummer’s scars and false stubble. He tried some more wine. This time it went down easier. â€Å"Can you free me from this pit?† â€Å"I could . . . but will I? No. Questions would be asked, and the answers would lead back to me.† Ned had expected no more. â€Å"You are blunt.† â€Å"A eunuch has no honor, and a spider does not enjoy the luxury of scruples, my lord.† â€Å"Would you at least consent to carry a message out for me?† â€Å"That would depend on the message. I will gladly provide you with paper and ink, if you like. And when you have written what you will, I will take the letter and read it, and deliver it or not, as best serves my own ends.† â€Å"Your own ends. What ends are those, Lord Varys?† â€Å"Peace,† Varys replied without hesitation. â€Å"If there was one soul in King’s Landing who was truly desperate to keep Robert Baratheon alive, it was me.† He sighed. â€Å"For fifteen years I protected him from his enemies, but I could not protect him from his friends. What strange fit of madness led you to tell the queen that you had learned the truth of Joffrey’s birth?† â€Å"The madness of mercy,† Ned admitted. â€Å"Ah,† said Varys. â€Å"To be sure. You are an honest and honorable man, Lord Eddard. Ofttimes I forget that. I have met so few of them in my life.† He glanced around the cell. â€Å"When I see what honesty and honor have won you, I understand why.† Ned Stark laid his head back against the damp stone wall and closed his eyes. His leg was throbbing. â€Å"The king’s wine . . . did you question Lancel?† â€Å"Oh, indeed. Cersei gave him the wineskins, and told him it was Robert’s favorite vintage.† The eunuch shrugged. â€Å"A hunter lives a perilous life. If the boar had not done for Robert, it would have been a fall from a horse, the bite of a wood adder, an arrow gone astray . . . the forest is the abbatoir of the gods. It was not wine that killed the king. It was your mercy.† Ned had feared as much. â€Å"Gods forgive me.† â€Å"If there are gods,† Varys said, â€Å"I expect they will. The queen would not have waited long in any case. Robert was becoming unruly, and she needed to be rid of him to free her hands to deal with his brothers. They are quite a pair, Stannis and Renly. The iron gauntlet and the silk glove.† He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. â€Å"You have been foolish, my lord. You ought to have heeded Littlefinger when he urged you to support Joffrey’s succession.† â€Å"How . . . how could you know of that?† Varys smiled. â€Å"I know, that’s all that need concern you. I also know that on the morrow the queen will pay you a visit.† Slowly Ned raised his eyes. â€Å"Why?† â€Å"Cersei is frightened of you, my lord . . . but she has other enemies she fears even more. Her beloved Jaime is fighting the river lords even now. Lysa Arryn sits in the Eyrie, ringed in stone and steel, and there is no love lost between her and the queen. In Dorne, the Martells still brood on the murder of Princess Elia and her babes. And now your son marches down the Neck with a northern host at his back.† â€Å"Robb is only a boy,† Ned said, aghast. â€Å"A boy with an army,† Varys said. â€Å"Yet only a boy, as you say. The king’s brothers are the ones giving Cersei sleepless nights . . . Lord Stannis in particular. His claim is the true one, he is known for his prowess as a battle commander, and he is utterly without mercy. There is no creature on earth half so terrifying as a truly just man. No one knows what Stannis has been doing on Dragonstone, but I will wager you that he’s gathered more swords than seashells. So here is Cersei’s nightmare: while her father and brother spend their power battling Starks and Tullys, Lord Stannis will land, proclaim himself king, and lop off her son’s curly blond head . . . and her own in the bargain, though I truly believe she cares more about the boy.† â€Å"Stannis Baratheon is Robert’s true heir,† Ned said. â€Å"The throne is his by rights. I would welcome his ascent.† Varys tsked. â€Å"Cersei will not want to hear that, I promise you. Stannis may win the throne, but only your rotting head will remain to cheer unless you guard that tongue of yours. Sansa begged so sweetly, it would be a shame if you threw it all away. You are being given your life back, if you’ll take it. Cersei is no fool. She knows a tame wolf is of more use than a dead one.† â€Å"You want me to serve the woman who murdered my king, butchered my men, and crippled my son?† Ned’s voice was thick with disbelief. â€Å"I want you to serve the realm,† Varys said. â€Å"Tell the queen that you will confess your vile treason, command your son to lay down his sword, and proclaim Joffrey as the true heir. Offer to denounce Stannis and Renly as faithless usurpers. Our green-eyed lioness knows you are a man of honor. If you will give her the peace she needs and the time to deal with Stannis, and pledge to carry her secret to your grave, I believe she will allow you to take the black and live out the rest of your days on the Wall, with your brother and that baseborn son of yours.† The thought of Jon filled Ned with a sense of shame, and a sorrow too deep for words. If only he could see the boy again, sit and talk with him . . . pain shot through his broken leg, beneath the filthy grey plaster of his cast. He winced, his fingers opening and closing helplessly. â€Å"Is this your own scheme,† he gasped out at Varys, â€Å"or are you in league with Littlefinger?† That seemed to amuse the eunuch. â€Å"I would sooner wed the Black Goat of Qohor. Littlefinger is the second most devious man in the Seven Kingdoms. Oh, I feed him choice whispers, sufficient so that he thinks I am his . . . just as I allow Cersei to believe I am hers.† â€Å"And just as you let me believe that you were mine. Tell me, Lord Varys, who do you truly serve?† Varys smiled thinly. â€Å"Why, the realm, my good lord, how ever could you doubt that? I swear it by my lost manhood. I serve the realm, and the realm needs peace.† He finished the last swallow of wine, and tossed the empty skin aside. â€Å"So what is your answer, Lord Eddard? Give me your word that you’ll tell the queen what she wants to hear when she comes calling.† â€Å"If I did, my word would be as hollow as an empty suit of armor. My life is not so precious to me as that.† â€Å"Pity.† The eunuch stood. â€Å"And your daughter’s life, my lord? How precious is that?† A chill pierced Ned’s heart. â€Å"My daughter . . . â€Å" â€Å"Surely you did not think I’d forgotten about your sweet innocent, my lord? The queen most certainly has not.† â€Å"No,† Ned pleaded, his voice cracking. â€Å"Varys, gods have mercy, do as you like with me, but leave my daughter out of your schemes. Sansa’s no more than a child.† â€Å"Rhaenys was a child too. Prince Rhaegar’s daughter. A precious little thing, younger than your girls. She had a small black kitten she called Balerion, did you know? I always wondered what happened to him. Rhaenys liked to pretend he was the true Balerion, the Black Dread of old, but I imagine the Lannisters taught her the difference between a kitten and a dragon quick enough, the day they broke down her door.† Varys gave a long weary sigh, the sigh of a man who carried all the sadness of the world in a sack upon his shoulders. â€Å"The High Septon once told me that as we sin, so do we suffer. If that’s true, Lord Eddard, tell me . . . why is it always the innocents who suffer most, when you high lords play your game of thrones? Ponder it, if you would, while you wait upon the queen. And spare a thought for this as well: The next visitor who calls on you could bring you bread and cheese and the milk of the poppy for your pain . . . or he could bring you S ansa’s head. â€Å"The choice, my dear lord Hand, is entirely yours.† How to cite A Game of Thrones Chapter Fifty-eight, Essay examples

Question: Discuss about theSustainable marketing. Answer: Introduction Climatic change is one of the key issues being faced by the contemporary business organizations in the current business scenario. This is due to the reason that, in the current scenario, the whole world is suffering from the issues in climate and environment (Seinfeld and Pandis ). Thus, in accordance to that, various initiative and regulations are being promoted to reduce the effect and implications of the climate change in the social life. One of the key areas being identified for generation of pollutants is the automotive sector. It is being estimated that more than 20 percent of the pollutants being produced by the man made activities are being generated from the automotive sector. Thus, it is of urgent need that the automotive sector should come with sustainable initiatives in order to curb the generation of pollutants (Epstein and Buhovac 2014). Ford is one of the oldest and most prominent players in the automobile industry. They are currently operating in different regions around the world and are having diversified product portfolio (Ford Corporate 2017). However, they are also being considered as one of the leading automobile organizations in contributing pollutants in the environment. Thus, it is also of urgent requirement for Ford to come up with various initiatives in order to curb their environmental impact along with offering their customers more environment friendly products. This report will discuss about the environmental factors that are being acted as the influencing factors for the automobile sectors to have implement change in their business policies. In addition, the various environmental factors will be analyzed in order to determine the influence of them in the automotive sectors. The implications of these environmental issues on the business potential of Ford as well as on the whole society will also be discussed. Moreover, the existing sustainability strategies being implemented by Ford will also be discussed in this report. Global factors influencing the automotive industry There are various issues being faced by the players operating in the automobile sector, which are influencing them in initiating for sustainable marketing. In the current environmental situation, majority of the developed and developing countries are initiating for stringent rules and regulations in order to curb the rate of pollution (Fontras et al. 2014). This is due to the fact that, developed countries such as America, Japan and United Kingdom along with the developing nations such as China and India is the major contributors of automotive pollution. This is leading to the health degradation of the population in the respective countries. Thus, the government in all the major economies is introducing various regulations to curb the present rate of pollution (Kurokawa et al. 2013). To adhere with these regulations, automobile manufacturers have to come up latest sustainability strategies. For instance, Government of India recently introduced the Euro IV norms for emission for the a ll the manufacturers being operating in India. The economical factor is also being responsible for influencing the automobile manufacturers in introducing sustainability strategies. With the development in the global economy in the recent years, the purchasing power of the customers is increasing. Thus, affordability of the customers in paying extra cost for hybrid and electric vehicles is more in the present scenario (Tseng, Wu and Liu 2013). In the recent sales report of the hybrid vehicles, it is been seen that this type of vehicles is selling in more volumes compared to other conventional vehicles. Thus, the economical environment for the hybrid vehicles is favorable and positive. This is further influencing the automobile manufacturers in marketing their eco-friendly products more to the customers. Thus, the sustainability activities of these organizations are being more promoted. Figure: 1 Sales report of the traditional and hybrid vehicles The social influence is one of the key influencing factors in motivating the automobile manufacturers to opt for sustainable marketing. The social culture in the current global market scenario is more favorable for the eco-friendly automobiles. Customers are more looking for the low level of emission and increased fuel efficiency (Khan and Kockelman 2012). Thus, automobile manufacturers are being more motivated in introducing greener products. With the rapid development in the technologies, introduction of the fuel-efficient products is becoming cost effective. Moreover, initiation of the technologies in producing hybrid and electric vehicles is also influencing the manufacturers in promoting more sustainable marketing strategies (Murphey et al. 2012). Triple bottom line analysis People According to the triple bottom line analysis, three areas or aspects should be considered by the contemporary business organizations in promoting more sustainable business activities (Willard 2012). The first aspect is the people or the social bottom line. The key issues that to be faced by Ford in initiating the social sustainability is the ethical issues that can be generated from the management of the human resources. According to the concept of the triple bottom line, organizations should provide all the benefits to their employees along with providing the products of having highest quality standard to the customers (Kuznetsova 2013). Ethical treatment of all the stakeholders is also one of the key considerations for social sustainability. Stakeholders include partners and suppliers for the organizations. Planet The next aspect is the planet or the environmental bottom line. According to this aspect, organizations should take care of the environment where they are currently operating. In the case of Ford, they should design their production process and marketing process in such a way that the entire process will have less impact on the environment (Wiles and Watts 2014). In sourcing the raw materials from the suppliers, Ford should initiate innovations and newer technologies in increasing the effectiveness of the sourcing process. The production process should adhere to the environmental standards and regulations and it should promote production of eco-friendly products (Nanda and Pring 2012). Moreover, initiation of the strategies such as repurposing, remanufacturing and recycling will help them in reducing the environmental impact from their operational activities. The marketing activities should also be having less environmental impact on the society. Social media marketing is one of the potential ways of sustainable marketing process (Tuten and Solomon 2014). Thus, Ford should initiate the use of social media as their key marketing tool. Already they have involved various social media platforms to promote their products. Profit The last aspect of triple bottom line is the profit, which is the core business objective for the organizations. The effective compliment of both the social and environmental considerations will help the organizations in leveraging more profit from the market. With the increase in the social awareness of the society about the environmental issues, it is required for the organizations to adhere their social and environmental considerations with their corporate governance. This will help them in enhancing their goodwill and reputation in the market. Perceived risks However, various risks can be generated from the initiation of sustainable marketing for Ford. One of the prime risks is the financial risk for the customers. This is due to the fact that, due to the initiation of the sustainable marketing strategies, the price of the product will be higher and thus it will be determined by the customers that whether they will have any benefits or not by paying extra amount (Hofmann et al. 2014). Moreover, organizations should have to make sure that their sustainable products would perform at par with the conventional products. The sustainable products should provide convenience to the customers more than that of the conventional products. Impact of sustainability issues on Ford Government legislations One of the key sustainability issues being faced by Ford is the introduction of various legislations and regulations regarding the pollution being emitted by the automotive industries. Without adhering with these regulations, the business potential of Ford will get reduced. This is due to the reason that, majority of the product portfolio of Ford is consist of petrol and diesel vehicles. Thus, introduction of the environmental laws will pose restrictions on the production of the diesel vehicles initially and petrol vehicles on the later stage (Vlachos et al. 2014). It will have adverse impact on the business potential of Ford. Moreover, governments in various countries are initiating for ban in vehicles having higher cubic capacity due to the reason that these vehicles are responsible for emitting more pollutants. On the other hand, Ford is having products with higher engine capacity such as Ford GT and Mustang. Thus, these legislations will have direct negative impact on the sales p erformance of Ford. Change in market trend The change in taste and preference pattern of the customers is also one of the key issues being faced by the automotive organizations such as Ford. In the current scenario, customers are more aware about the environmental issues and they are opting for eco-friendly products (Graham-Rowe et al. 2012). Thus, if Ford cannot change their existing product portfolio of conventional vehicles to greener vehicles, the sales potential will reduce significantly. It will also decrease the competitive advantages of them in the market. Thus, not adhering with the changing trend in the market will also have adverse impact on the business performance of Ford. Involvement of cost Another sustainability issue being faced by Ford is implementing change in the production process to cater to changing market requirement. The existing production process should change by them to produce the hybrid and electric vehicles. It will involve huge cost in changing the production process as well as the assembly line (Hwang and Tan 2012). In addition, the employees should be trained with the new technologies and with the new production process. Thus, for Ford it will be a huge cost-incurring project, to initiate the sustainability in the production process. Expertise in eco-friendly vehicles Vehicle manufacturers such as such as Tesla had opted for alternative vehicles from few years back. Thus, they have gained more expertise than that if Ford in this department. On the other hand, Ford has initiated the process of producing electric, hybrid vehicles much later, and that too by feeling the market pressure. Thus, the competitors of Ford are having more expertise than of Ford. It may have adverse impact on the initiation of the sustainability by ford. Issue with non renewable fuels In the current scenario, automobile manufacturers is facing the issue of shortage and first depletion of the fossil fuels and it is being projected that in the coming few years, this issue will increase rapidly. Thus, with the increase in the shortage of the fossil fuels, the demand for the conventional vehicles will get reduced (Abas, Kalair and Khan 2015). Hence, the only way to survive in the market is to initiate the alternative vehicles in the market. This is one of the key sustainability issues being faced by Ford in the present business scenario. Impact of sustainability on society The above discussed sustainability issues will not only have implications for the Ford as an organization, but also for the entire society. This is due to the reason that, the issue of sustainability of the organizations is related with the environment and society as a whole. Thus, it will directly affect the society (KIemes 2015). The pollutants being emitted by the automobiles will degrade the quality of the environment, which in turn will have ill impact on the health of the individuals. It is being reported that, excessive amount of emission of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide will have serious impact on the human beings. Thus, due to the emission of the automobiles, the sustainability of the whole society will be at stake. Moreover, another issue being faced by the society in the present scenario is the wellbeing of the future generations. The core motive of initiation of sustainable activities is to secure the future of the future generation as well as keeping resources for t hem also. However, in the current state of affairs, the level at which the resources are being exploited, it will create issue for the future generation. Thus, initiation of the sustainable activities will help to reduce this issue. Climatic issue The degradation of the environment will have negative impact on the climate change. This is due to the reason that, the average global temperature will get increased due to the excessive emission of pollutants. This will in turn affect the global sustainability. Due to the change in the climate, the whole ecosystem will get changed and it will have implications for the entire society. Thus, the initiation of the sustainable marketing will help to reduce the impact on the environment to some extent, which will in turn reduce the probability of the climate change. Sustainable activities by Ford Ford has initiated the electrification schemes for their product portfolio. They have initiated with the introduction of the electric and hybrid cars. They have set a target of having more electric and hybrid cars more than the conventional cars. By 2020, they will invest more than $4.5 billion in research and development for the enhancing the utility of the electric cars (Corporate.ford.com 2017). Another sustainable initiative being taken by Ford is the initiation of the connected cars. According to them, technologies in the connected cars will help to reduce the road congestion and thus the time, energy and resources being wasted in the traffic congestion will get reduced (Korosec 2017). The cars of Ford are having latest technologies, which helped them in achieving the more fuel efficiency without being compromised on performance. Thus, the latest product portfolio of Ford is more fuel-efficient and they use less amount of fuels. Ford as one of their key aspects of sustainable policies is also considering vehicle safety. They have designed their vehicles and inducted technologies in order to provide the highest level of safety to their customers. All the ford vehicles are complied with NCAP safety ratings. This ensures the safety of the customers. Ford has also enhanced the process of their supply chain in order to gain higher amount of sustainability. The supply chain management initiated by Ford has set the standards for their suppliers to reduce the GHG emission and to achieve the energy efficiency target being set by them (Allen 2017). The manufacturing facility of Ford in Dearborn is being certified as gold LEED standard. They have initiated various environmental policies in their manufacturing facilities in order to reduce the environmental impact. One of the green initiatives being taken by them is the introduction of wildlife habitat in the facility (Media.ford.com 2017). Ford has initiated sustainability in their manufacturing facilities also. They have initiated advanced automated manufacturing process, which is more profitable and safe. All the aspects in the manufacturing facilities such as in line vehicle sequencing, waste reduction and quality control. It helped them in achieving cost efficiency and cost effectiveness in the manufacturing process. Automated manufacturing process of Ford is involving less amount of energy without being compromising in the performance. Ford has initiated a scheme named, Ford Authorized Leasing system. According to this scheme, Ford vehicles can be rented from the Ford dealership. They have employed trained employees in dealing with the customers interested in leasing Ford cars (Ford.com 2017). This scheme is helping the organization in two ways. One of the key benefits they are achieving is the added revenue from the customers. This is due to the reason that, customers not willing or not having the affordability to have a car is opting for leasing. Thus, Ford is able to cater to a larger section of the customers. On the other hand, leasing is helping them in reducing the level of emission from the cars due to the reason that, leasing is the concept of using the same car by different individuals, thus reducing the rate of emission by having more number of cars. Ford also promotes recycle process in their manufacturing facilities. It is being reported at their official website that each week they are recycling more than 5 million of aluminum to build the F series truck. Thus, sustainability is being gained from reducing the waste in the manufacturing process. Ford has also initiated the use of recycled fabric for the cars. The particular fabric is being manufactured from 100 percent recycled materials. It is being estimated by them that with the help of this initiatives, they will be able to conserve more than 600000 gallons of water and will help in reduction of the emission of carbon dioxide. They have also initiated a policy of developing electricity from the paint fumes. According to this policy, electricity is being produced from the fumes of the paint used in the painting process of the vehicles. Thus, the use of non renewable energy will get reduced. It is helping Ford in two ways. On one hand, Ford is making more profit due to the fact that; they do not have incurred cost for buying of energy resources. On the other hand, the sustainability of their production process can also be maintained effectively. Thus, the goodwill and the reputation in the market are being enhanced. All of the above discussed policies being initiated by Ford is helping them in gaining more competitive advantages in the market. This is due to the reason that, Ford is reducing their cost of production by enabling the low cost alternative strategies in their business activities. In addition, the global reputation of them of being a sustainable organization is also being enhanced. Due to their expertise in energy consumption, Ford has gained the EPAs energy star award. Only in United States of America, Ford had saved more than $ 25 million in energy billing. Thus, the sustainable policies being adopted by them is not only helping the society as a whole, but also helping in gaining competitiveness for Ford. Conclusion Having discussed the influencing factors for the automobile manufacturers in initiating sustainable activities, it can be concluded that, initiation of sustainable activities is required for the holistic welfare of all the stakeholders. Evaluation of the potential sustainability issues helped to identify the challenges that may be faced by the organizations in implementing the activities. Thus, it is the responsibility of the organizations in overcoming the probable challenges and implements the sustainable marketing strategies effectively. The sustainable initiative being taken by Ford has also been discussed. It shows the effectiveness of the policies being initiated by them. Moreover, the advantages that they have gained showed that effective implementation of the sustainable marketing strategies will create opportunities for the organizations.
